A remarkable film in which puppets are combined with real-life settings. It celebrates the eternal renaissance of life in spring. The principle actors are logs of wood and the death's head crow. The story is framed with a human character whose normal actions are contrasting with the deep fatality of pagan customs. Generous animation in exteriors is exceptional in the Czech animation.
